The most prominent member of the family was Anne Boleyn, who married Henry VIII and became his second wife. However their relationship divided and split England to its very core. Anne a woman of strong morals refused to become the King’s mistress, like her sister had done so. But this pursuit of Anne led Henry to split from the Catholic Church, and be declared the Supreme Head of the Church of England. The Boleyn’s were intimately linked to the royalty and nobility throughout the Tudor Period, with Anne’s daughter Elizabeth later becoming Elizabeth I, a Queen which many regard to be one of England’s best. But what about the matriarch for the Boleyn’s? Who was Anne Boleyn’s mother and Elizabeth I’s grandmother?
