A short preview on some of the coolest things I have seen. There is a ton of extra footage which I ll upload sometime. Most of these fishes have very unique characteristics/behavior and are endemic to HI.
Some interesting facts on several species of butterfly fishes like racoon - very aptly named, black long nose - turn yellow when moved to another environment. No one can explain why/how (you can see a tinge of yellow @ 1.48).
flounders - when born have eyes on either side like any normal fish and as they grow, the eyes move to one side of the body.
"crown of thorns" starfish have epic stand-offs with sea snails (two slowest moving animals give each other a "run" for their money)
various species of wrasse - dragon, razor, clown each with its own colors/characteristics, perfectly camouflaged and venomous frog fish, long tubular trumpet fish, hard to find leaf fish, hawaiian monk seals - rare and close to extinction with only 1200 alive and of course the millions siphonophores/unknown species of jellyfishes during the blackwater dive made this share worthy :).
Kudos to Karthik Srinandan (and his family for letting him join the dive) - didn't take much to convince him to get certified and take up diving.
