Chair of maternity inquiry says failings were much worse than anticipated

The chair of an inquiry into failings in maternity care in England says she has been "shocked" at the experiences of some women giving birth and "there is too much harm, too much distress and too much trauma."
A "staggering" 748 recommendations have been made about NHS maternity services in recent years, Baroness Amos revealed, and she does "not understand why change has been so slow".
She added that there is "clearly discrimination" against people of colour in maternity care and vowed "our women and children deserve this change and I'm going to work hard to make it happen."
