1986 Univega Superlight - The Bike That Started SOS Restorations

This is the bike that started the SOS Restoration journey. After having taken my Masi Alare into the shop for a tune up...3 times, only to bring it home $150 lighter and in worse shape, I decided I needed to learn some bike repair basics for myself. Not long after I stumbled upon this 1986 Univega Superlight on FB Marketplace and was struck by the amazing condition, uniqueness, and cheap price, although it was incomplete and needed some love. So I was forced to learn on the fly; YouTube and a friend in the bike industry were huge lifelines. The approach I took was to preserve the vintage look while adding some modern functionality. I upgraded the drivetrain from 2X6 to 2X7 with modern style Microshift brifters instead of the down-tube shifters.

As much as I would have liked to keep it, I didn't have the financial means or space to. It quickly found a new home and I was able to fund the next project.
