German techno project led by Andreas Krüger from Göttingen.
Ralf Uhrlandt is the co-DJ for the live appearances.
After Andreas Krüger handed Sven Väth a demo tape at a techno party in the early 1990s , he quickly signed with Väth's record label, Harthouse. When Harthouse went bankrupt in 1997, Der Dritte Raum moved to the multinational record label Virgin. In 2005, he joined the independent label Resopal Schallware.
Der Dritte Raum has become famous within the techno scene primarily through their live performances, which Krüger performs together with Ralf Uhrlandt. Unlike many other acts in this genre, Krüger and Uhrlandt directly influence the raw data sent from their two Apple laptops as audio to the mixing console or as MIDI data to the various synthesizers. Thus, as with a "conventional" band, every performance is different, and improvisation is a key element. They have repeatedly been recognized by various techno magazines as one of the best German live acts.
In the studio, Krüger works alone. His preferred equipment is analog synthesizers and modular systems (such as the Doepfer "A-100" ). Besides the project Der Dritte Raum, Andreas Krüger also produced music under various pseudonyms, including Dr. DNA, Plaste + Elaste, Der Stern von Afrika, and Perpetuum Mobile.
