Mycobacterium Avium Complex (MAC) lung disease is caused by bacteria commonly found in water and soil. While these bacteria typically don't cause illness, they can lead to persistent lung infections in individuals with underlying lung conditions like COPD, cystic fibrosis, or bronchiectasis. Symptoms often include a chronic cough, fatigue, weight loss, and night sweats. In some cases, treatment is required to manage chronic infections.
