Amber Sophus, PhD, MPH, Florida International University
Dr. Amber Sophus is social and behavioral research scientist. She is currently a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Florida International University within the Robert Stempel College of Public Health & Social Work. Dr. Sophus is also Visiting Research Faculty at Yale University through the CIRA REIDS Fellowship; and serves on the Board of Directors for the 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, Something Positive for Positive People (SPFPP) (www.spfpp.org). Dr. Sophus has over 10 years of intensive research experience in HIV prevention, and has worked with different priority populations, specifically sexual minorities and Black women. Her program of research is dedicated to advancing HIV/STI prevention and sexual health among underserved communities, with an emphasis on reducing HIV disparities among adult cisgender Black women in the Southern United States. Her immediate research interests focus on improving awareness, knowledge, and uptake of biomedical strategies for HIV prevention, specifically pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).

QRDG Overview:
The goal of the Qualitative Research Discussion Group (QRDG) is to provide opportunities for individuals involved in qualitative or mixed-methods research to meet regularly to discuss the qualitative research process and potentially problem-solve issues that may arise when engaged in qualitative research. Discussion topics include, but are not limited to: logistics, data management, analysis, dissemination, role of the researcher, and ethics. It is intended as a venue for discussing research in progress and new or relevant literature on qualitative methods and practice as well as to create networking opportunities and foster research collaborations.
