This video highlights the Black Swallowtail and has clips of caterpillars that are just starting out in October. These young caterpillars are trying to survive for 3-4 weeks so they can turn into a chrysalis. Once a chrysalis they are able to overwinter and become a butterfly in the spring. See the host plant, Rue. Also the New England Aster is highlighted. This flower is a magnificent late season bloomer. Will these small Black Swallowtail Butterfly caterpillars make the transformations into beautiful, majestic butterflies?
