In this Video Lecture Professor Fink first reviews 7 Types of Adverse Drug Reactions, including Toxic ("over dose") Reactions, Adverse ("side") Reactions, Local ("irritation") Reactions, Allergic (Hypersensitivity) Reactions, Idiosyncratic ("paradoxical") Reactions, Teratogenic Effects, Carcinogenic Effects and Drug Dependency. Reference is made to the characteristics & treatment of Delayed-Onset (Type IV) Hypersensitivity Reactions, Immediate-Onset (Type 1; "Anaphylactic") Ractions, FDA Pregnancy Categories, Physical Dependency & Withdrawal versus Psychological Dependency ("habituation") and Iatrogenic Disease. Professor Fink then reviews the evaluation of the Relative Safety of a Drug, including the acute LD50, Therapeutic Margin, Margin of Safety, Therapeutic Index, Safety Index and the Certain Safety Factor. Finally Professor Fink describes how to use the Patient Health Questionnaire to assess a patient's health status.
