Obed Farm July 2025 Farm Update

Hey everyone, welcome back to the channel! In this monthly update, we’re diving into everything that’s happened on Obed Farm during June and mapping out where we’re headed next.

We’ve got a lot to cover! Over at the farm, we’re growing out 50 broiler chickens, and right here at home in the backyard, we have 80 more broilers on track. We’ll also take a look at our kroilers—those local improved chickens—which now number 17 and have just been moved from the backyard to the farm to clear space for our heritage chickens.

The heritage hens are laying well, so we’ve even added a small incubator to start hatching more of their eggs. On the livestock side, we’ll check in on our small herd of 15 cattle, talk about how we’re keeping them healthy through the cold months, and the steps we’re taking to improve feed conversion. Plus, our rabbits are multiplying, so we’ve begun some barter trading locally to help manage the numbers.

And don’t forget our two pigs—one sow and a boar—as we wait to see if our sow is pregnant, or if she’ll need another service soon. Lastly, we’ll walk through our little vegetable garden that’s coming alive with tomatoes, onions, and kale. There’s a lot happening and never enough hours in the day—but as always, I hope you enjoy coming along for the ride!
