Gaggia Brera Automatic Espresso Machine 1 Year Review – #19

In this video I am looking at the Gaggia Brera automatic espresso machine. I go through the basic functions and check out how loud the machine is in my kitchen. I make both coffee length pours as well as espresso pours.

Overall, I have to say I am very happy with my purchase. In a market with a lot of machines my biggest complaint with this machine is the smaller tank sizes versus the previous generation. The improvements far out way having to do a tiny amount of extra labor. The improved cleaning cycle on both power up and power down means the machine stays cleaner and makes better coffee for longer.

Other valid concerns: The drip tray leaks a bit, mine was missing the indicator for when to empty the drip tray (I empty every time I empty the grounds hopper), it's loud, the water fill indicator is typically off by one shot and the machine doesn't always remember to run a priming cycle.

Some History:
The last machine from this company lasted 10 years when the controller finally went bad, the bean grinder was limping along at that point and most of the sensors had failed in one way or another. In the end it made a shot of coffee then just went completely insane all at once never to make coffee again…The 22,000 shots of coffee from this old machine would have cost $38,500 from a chain coffee place. I probably spent about $12,500 on coffee during this time but still far cheaper!
