See the end of this description for links to the LYZ extension for Inkscape, and a download link to my Leather Tag DXF file.
This video is just a quick overview of how I am engraving and cutting leather with the K40 CO2 Laser. Some people will laugh at the K40, but it was the Laser that got me into the space. With some adjustments and tweaking it can be a pretty good piece of equipment.
For this video I designed a wine tag in TurboCad for Mac, and then I exported it as a DXF file. From there I go into QCad (free trial program) just to change the line color to red, and then save as DXF. I then open that DXF file in Inkscape which I am running on Mac with the XQuartz setup (can Google Inkscape on Mac for more info). In Inkscape you open the DXF file, I recommend going to File/Document Properties and selecting "resize page to drawing or selection". Once you do that you can save the file in LYZ format and open directly on your LaserDRW software.
Shout out to Scorch Works for the LYZ extension with Inkscape, here is a link to their site:

Please don't hesitate to ask me questions in the comments, I know the K40 is bare bones for CO2 Lasers, but it can get you on your way for a minimal investment.
