This is a recording of the Sonic 2 final boss theme with sound effects completely muted. It recreates the well-known bug where the background music goes out of tune every time you hit the boss.
The audio was recorded on PC using the web-based version of the game at allsonicgames.net. No edits were made, just the original game behavior with SFX turned off, so you can hear the music detuning itself (when it feels like it).
This glitch happens because of how the SEGA Genesis handled audio channels, sound effects would steal voices from the music, causing it to go off-key in a strangely iconic way.
No commentary, no hit sounds, just raw broken boss music 👍
Nothing against SEGA. Personally, I love Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
