Hugh's work for the past 15 years has been shaped by the extraordinary and largely untold story of how hundreds of millions of smallholder farmers around the world came to be marginalized, abandoned and made functionally invisible, but who could soon be leading an agricultural revolution with the power to alter the course of life on our planet. Regenerative agriculture is now making the transition from aspirational methodology to a new global strategy for climate-smart food production, with smallholders throughout the Global South at the forefront of this new green revolution. Hugh will also talk about the unique role that the Baha’i Faith is poised to make in this process.
Hugh Locke is president and co-founder of Futurra, an organization that orchestrates regenerative agriculture and agroforestry programs and research. He is president and co-founder of the Smallholder Farmers Alliance in Haiti, where agroforestry is helping to both feed and reforest that embattled country. Hugh was a senior editor of the groundbreaking Regenerative Agriculture Global Reports, sponsored by The Rockefeller Foundation and which collectively explore the definition, implementation, verification, and global scaling of regenerative agriculture. He is on the board of One Tree Planted, a global reforestation nonprofit committed to environmental restoration and sustainable land management practices.
