Here's a little dose of nostalgia for all my fellow millenial Gen Y- ers out there! When I was 14, I wanted to BE Ashlee Simpson. She was SO cool & beautiful & rebellious & all the things I felt like I wasn't. After this album came out, I took her picture to the hair salon & requested "edgy hair" like hers. Ashlee was GOOOALS for me... then it happened. If you were even remotely aware of pop culture in 2004, you know what I'm talking about... THE SNL PERFORMANCE. For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, Ashlee was invited to sing this very song on SNL & things went horribly wrong. It was discovered through a series of unfortunate events that she was lip syncing... on LIVE television. The collective gasp of all 13-18 year olds was heard around the world. She later admitted that having acid reflux forced her to have to lip sync for the show. I'm ashamed to admit that I judged her for it & was totally like, "PSHHH acid reflux? That's such a fake excuse.🙄"

Fast forward to July 2020... when out of nowhere, my voice suddenly started to disappear. It was terrifying. I wasn't in pain or sick & I just couldn't figure out why my voice was going away. After quite a few frustrating months of not being able to sing at ALL, a doctor finally discovered that it was ACID REFLUX that was hurting my vocal cords. I realized that after all this time, the very thing I immaturely judged someone else for had happened to me. So now that my voice is back, I wanted this song to be the very first live cover I posted as a return to singing on my channel. This is dedicated to my forever scene queen, Ashlee Simpson... whose struggle I now COMPLETELY understand. This song is a bop, but it's also a reminder to ALWAYS have compassion, understanding, & kindness because other people (including celebrities & people you stan online) are human too, just like you are! & one day, if you're not careful, YOU could find yourself in the same situation that you unfairly judged someone else for. Remember- BE NICE! (it's really not that hard lol) & BE A LIGHT!
