Empty Waves, Visa Runs & Chaos in the Mountains

The journey begins in a quiet coastal village on the southwest coast of Bali—lush, warm, and full of promise. There's a certain magic in the air here. The smell of incense, the sound of distant gamelan, and roosters calling in the misty morning light.

We hit the road in our rental car, and the first stop is a remote surf break, where a perfect left is peeling along the reef. It's clean, peeling, and tempting. But we've got places to be.

Next up: a quick breakfast by the beach before checking another surf spot. This one is even better—ripable rights and lefts coming in with nobody out. Empty waves in Bali... yes, it still happens.

But the surf will have to wait. We're due in Singaraja for a C1 visa renewal, so we'll continue north before heading inland toward the volcanic mountains of Munduk. The roads narrow, the traffic thickens, and the adventure turns tense.

By the time we reach our cabin in the jungle, we're exhausted and disappointed. It's not what we hoped for. So first thing in the morning, we beeline for Lovina, a quirky little beach town on Bali's north coast. It is precisely what we need to reset the mood and remind ourselves why we love this island.
