Jungle Bassline Generator with Ableton Stock MIDI Devices | Automate Your 808 Bass Patterns

Is it possible? A jungle bassline generator in Ableton with stock MIDI devices? Can I automate my 808s?? Can I make it work for the different breaks across a variety of musical keys?! These were all questions pondered as I made this video.

I wanted to make something self-contained as an Ableton preset, that would be musical, versatile, and customisable.

So, I think the answer is yes. You'll need your own sounds, sure, and it takes a bit of time to set up, but once it's done you can just pull it onto different breaks, tweak a few of the macros and you're good to go! I've used Ableton's Macro Snapshots in the Instrument Rack to save presets for different keys from E minor to A minor.

Along the way I talk about some useful music theory, including the breaks and the bass working as one unit, musical intervals in the minor scale, and rhythmic devision.

💡 Why not try loading in your own bass sounds? Just remember to tune them so that MIDI C1 plays back at that pitch.

This came about as a response to a few students saying how they struggled with writing 808 basslines. This is ONE solution, perhaps quite complicated but maybe it will give you new ideas!
