It's easy to see why the Landrover Discovery has been one of the most iconic 4x4s for so long. After all this car is so much more than just a typical, ponderous off roader. Our 2008 HSE glides along on its air suspension with limo-like ride quality, yet it also has Landrovers superb terrain response system which allows you to adjust the cars ride and 4 wheel drive system to best suit the terrain. Power comes courtesy of the 188bhp TDV6 turbo-diesel powerplant which also features in many Jaguar models - This is the only engine for this car if you want anything approaching decent fuel economy (we averaged 28 mpg on test and 30 mpg on the motorway) and via a 6 speed automatic gearbox which is slick as responsive.

Our cars "HSE" specification is already pretty spectacular before you add any extras, but this car has been fitted with several costly options to further enhance the opulence and luxury. Among the extras we find built in screen satellite navigation and bluetooth telephone preparation. The car has a Harman Kardon Hi-Fi which gives among the best quality sounds of any stereo I have ever heard. Both the front and rear seats are heated and there is full electric adjustment for the front seats. The car has 3 glass roof panels, each with their own sunblind, and with a fully electric glass sunroof to the front. This floods the interior with natural light and makes it a very pleasant place to spend time. It is of course a big car, but thanks to excellent visibility it is much easier to drive than you might expect. The interior is opulent with space for 7 adults and a split-opening tailgate. The condition is superb and everything in this car works as it should.

Standing at nearly 2 metres tall and nearly 5 metres in length, with a spacious, 7 seat interior, there is no denying that this is a big car. You sit high with a commanding view of the road. The seats are generously proportioned and superbly comfortable and despite its size, the Disco is a fairly easy car to drive thanks to its parking sensors and excellent visibility. When you park, the door mirrors can be retracted electrically to ensure they don't get hit by passing traffic. There's a total of 8 distance sensors on the front and rear bumpers which assist you with an audible beep when you negotiate tight spaces. The car is also fitted with cruise control, automatic headlamps, and rain sensitive wipers. So you can connect your mobile phone to the cars audio system leaving you to relax in some of the most comfortable seats in the world, whilst the Discovery 3 soaks up the miles...

Despite covering 134k miles from new, this car has been very well looked after and maintained by its previous owners. We have a full service history and a folder full of receipts for this car, You can tell it's been well looked after the moment you step up behind the wheel - There is barely a whisper from the V6 Turbo-diesel engine as the revs rise and virtually no any noise intrusion to the cabin- the car really does seem to isolate you from the outside world in your own leather clad cocoon. Thanks to the Dsicoverys 3s air suspension (all working perfectly with a nearly-new compressor), the ride quality is in a class of its own and whole car feels very smooth and refined. That suspension also means the Discovery 3 can be raised and lowered at the touch of a button to aid access or off-road ability.
