The 1970s was the peak of the Golden Era for American muscle cars. The early '70s saw GM relax a bit on its rules of mid-sized cars not having big blocks. This resulted in many high-powered V8s being plonked into considerably compact cars, which translated to grin-worthy power-to-weight ratios for the time. Chevrolet used most of this relaxation and flaunted its famed LS4, LS5, and LS6 V8s on various muscle and sports cars of the '70s. These include Camaros, Chevelles, and the shark-faced C3 Corvettes.

All of these high-power V8 Chevys had one thing in common—impressive straight-line speed.
