Several companies thought that they could “own" Internet communications and they tried to. Many of the men and women who created the technologies you use today worked on the vision expressed here and went on to do great things for companies like Apple, Microsoft, Facebook, and Google. But the service expressed here–the “cloud”–never came to be as they had imagined it.
