Carne Golf Links Ireland – A Wild Day on the West Coast

I was supposed to kick off my Wild Atlantic Golf Series here at Carne Golf Links in County Mayo — the plan was to play the full 18 and give the course a proper cinematic breakdown with drone shots and a clean, vlog-style on-course experience.
But for this visit, we could only play the back nine of the Hackett Course. The Wild Atlantic Dunes front nine is closed for winter work, so we stuck to what was open. There were winter tees and a few winter mats, and we were playing off the yellows — but honestly, it didn’t take away from the experience at all. The condition of the course was unbelievable, especially for the time of year.
The only thing that stopped us from filming the full series episode was the weather. Not crazy wind, just that steady wet rain that makes filming with multiple cameras and gear nearly impossible. We pushed through nine holes, but it wasn’t realistic to continue.
There’s still plenty of good golf in this one.
It starts off with nice conditions, gets progressively wetter, and we hang on for as long as we can, the views are incredible, and Carne shows why it’s one of the most special links in Ireland.
We’ll be back early in the new year to film the full 18 properly for the Wild Atlantic Golf Series — with better planning, better timing, and hopefully better weather.
