Riding New Zealand’s toughest dirt bike race—the No Way In Hell Extreme Enduro! To make things even harder, I did it on my 2008 YZ 250 2-stroke MX bike. After qualifying 58th out of 165 riders in the morning Prologue, we all lined up for the brutal five-hour race under a scorching 28-degree sun. With five tough checkpoints between me and the finish, missing one meant getting timed out and sent straight back to the pits.
There were plenty of victories along the way, but ultimately, my race ended in heartbreaking defeat at the bottom of the last hill. With the finish line in sight and an hour to go, I was cursed with a fouled plug. Fatigue and dehydration meant it took too long to recover and get the plug changed. In the end, I finished 63rd overall out of 161 riders and 31st in class.
