FIRST DAY of the Telford Steam Tram after restoration ! - Telford Town Tramway June 2025

On the 15th June 2025, the narrow gauge Telford Town Tramway re-opened to passengers for the first time in 6 years following the restoration of the steam tram & coach.

There is still lots of work to be done on both the site and the tram but we hope to begin regular passenger services shortly.

Assembled by Alan Keef Limited in 1979, the locomotive is powered by a vertical boilered steam engine. It has a single cylinder and chain drive to both axles and was named "Thomas" (after Thomas Telford) by the Rev. W. Awdry on 9 April 1980.
The tram and coach originally ran at the Telford Town Park, but was brought to the Telford Steam Railway in 1987.
In 2019, it was withdrawn due to its boiler being beyond economic repair. A new boiler was sourced and a full restoration project was launch to bring the tram back into service.
In 2025, the tram took its first passengers in 6 years and will return to regular service soon.
