The marine biologist Dr Benoit Queguineur works at Algaia, a French company that produces sustainable extracts from #seaweeds for application in agriculture, personal care, food and health. He manages the development of algae-based products, and is interested in identifying the potential of #algae and how to utilise it.
Together with the Algaia team, Dr Queguineur is involved in the EU-funded research project Algae4IBD. Their role in the project is to adapt the recipes developed by academic scientists for the production of algae extracts to an industrial scale. They are also developing prototypes for #gummybears containing algae compounds with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and prebiotic properties to reduce inflammation in the human body.
#algae4ibd is an international research effort to develop new functional foods and pharmaceutical solutions against chronic inflammation using compounds from algae. The project brings together scientists from different disciplines to investigate the anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and prebiotic properties of algae compounds and assess their potential for future applications in food and medicine.
