A noteworthy thing on this CBC Newfoundland sign-off is the visuals seen during the Ode to Newfoundland. Before they updated it in 1989 (and which that version would be used until 2006), this is what we saw when signing on and off for a time in the 1980s. It is not known when this version of visuals was first used nor when this version of the Ode heard here began being used. Either way, the Ode as heard was last heard on the CBC in 2006.
Some more notes:
The O Canada film had a long life, some of the visuals include Greg Joy with a Silver medal-winning moment in Montreal in 1976 and a young girl hugging her baby brother in approval, the last two visuals seen before the color bars or the cutting of the carrier.
This came from most of a recording which contained part of the opening ceremonies of the Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea. It also included a full edition of "The National" and "The Journal". I myself have never had a full edition of either in the pre-1993 era, though I have varying excerpts of each. There also included a couple of hours of CBC Stereo overnight programming simulcast on TV, and as it was a Friday night/Saturday morning, the overnight program was "Night Lines". On early weekday mornings, the overnight show on CBC Stereo was "Brave New Waves", which for a time was hosted by Brent Bambury. At this time (in mid-November 2025), I am waiting for a re-dub of the rest of this particular CBC recording. (The CBC has broadcast most of the Summer and Winter Olympics on their TV airwaves, with some others broadcast by CTV.)
