Schladming High Route

Spirituality and hiking (lots and LOTS of hiking!) on the Schladminger High Route, a five day trip that starts and ends in Schladming, Austria.

These mountains are part of the Niedriger Tauern Range. Steep valleys, gorgeous lakes and days of wandering above timberline.

Mostly I wander along and document the hike, and in the evenings I meditate and think about God and my many shortcomings. This combo, of wandering and contemplating is an absolute joy for me. If you ever think along similar lines, drop me a note and share your adventures. To all y'all I say "Grüß Gott," which is "I greet the God in you" in local dialect. :^).

Gear

Currently, you have to bring a sleeping bag to huts in the alps, that's why my pack is TOO BIG! Still, my bag is a very lightweight Yeti down sleeping bag. I have an Enlightened Equipment Torrid synthetic pullover as my warm layer, and a Frogg Toggs jacket for wind/rain. Lightweight gloves, a warm hat and a sun hat, along with an extra shirt and extra pair of socks round out my clothing.

I had two cameras in addition to my Nokia 6.2 phone, which I rarely used as a camera. A Sony rx100 IV for photos and some video, and a Sony ActionCam fvr-x3000 for most of the video. I had a small tripod.

I carried a Kindle and a small journal to write in. That's about it!
