It's not often that you get writing boxes which come with names and dates on them, so I was glad when this one did. Whoever S. Neaverson was, he certainly thought enough of this box, or what it possibly represented, to have his name and the year of purchase, beautifully engraved on the top-plate under the carry-handle.
This box, although beautiful, also shows just how fragile antique writing boxes can be. As much as we might not enjoy repairs like this, the truth is that they're unavoidable due to the manner of their construction. A sad inevitability.
