Sims 1
in The Sims 1, the Burglar can appear at around 3:00 AM if every family member is asleep. His presence is announced by this terrifying music. The alarm will start blasting as soon as the burglar steps inside and Michelle The Police Officer will come running, stopping the Burglar from escaping.

Sims 2
In The Sims 2, a burglar can visit your lot if every member of your family everyone is asleep. The Burglar can come from 10 pm - 4 am. Their arrival is also announced with a frightening music. Your Sim can call the police. A police officer will arrive in a patrol car, run to your front door and start checking the rooms for the burglar. If unsuccessful, the police officer will leave alone. If you have a burglar alarm, as soon as the burglar enters the lot, the alarm will start blasting and will immediately inform the police. The police officer and the burglar will start a fight. If the police officer wins, the burglar will be caught.

Sims 3
In The Sims 3, NPC Burglars strike again. Burglars can visit your house at night. Their arrival is again announced by an ominous music.
The burglar will enter the lot and start stealing with his bag. The Sim can call the police or if the Sim has the Brave Trait or have the Can Apprehend Burglar hidden trait, they can Fight the Burglar. If you have a Burglar Alarm, the alarm will start blasting and will immediately inform the police. A police officer will soon arrive in a patrol car and start to fight with the burglar. If the Police Officer wins, The family will be reimbursed for any stolen goods. If a police officer loses the fight, or arrives late, the burglar will escape.

Sims 4
In The Sims 4, an NPC Burglar was added in the game with Patch 176 in 2025. And with that, the option to be robbed. With the new Heist Havoc Lot Challenge, your home will be prone to robbing more often. A burglar named Robin Banks is the default burglar in Sims 4. An ominous music will introduce her appearance. The Burglar will start creeping through your house, eyeing your most valuable objects. She takes time to decide if the objects is worth stealing. She takes a bag and steals the object. An adult Sim can fight the burglar. If the Sim wins, The stolen objects will be retrieved. Sims can call the police station also confront the burglar. If you place an alarm system, when the Burglar enters, the alarm will start blasting. The burglar will start to panic and will eventually run off. You can also upgrade it to zap the burglar, make it unbreakable or to immediately inform the police.
