In 2017, the Me Too movement spread across the whole world and inspired Situmbeko to challenge generations of African cultural norms that define how women choose to share their stories. In this talk, Situmbeko discusses how feminism can be used to discuss sensitive issues affecting women and girls in Africa, while providing a safe, inclusive and available space to share stories and experiences that involuntarily link women together. Situmbeko Wambulawae is a writer, poet and feminist who believes in the power of words to convey messages that bring forth sustainable change. She is a journalist by profession and a Mandela Washington Fellow. She is also the founder of Zambian Feminists, an online movement dedicated to highlighting inequalities that affect women. Situmbeko uses storytelling and social media to stir forth conversations that impact women. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
