Pakistan is buckling under the weight of the coronavirus pandemic.
With the inflation rate reaching its highest levels in 70 years coupled with widening trade deficits and depleting foreign exchange reserves, its economy is sorely in need of life support. And the health crisis has only made it worse. Many people have lost their jobs. Their livelihood has also been severely destroyed by the ongoing pandemic.
And each time a crisis erupts, quite often it’s the ordinary citizens and children who will have to bear the full brunt of it. Alone and socially isolated, many children in Pakistan have dropped out of schools as a result of the pandemic. And they’re in danger of being drawn into hazardous economic activities and violent crimes.
What will become of the hundreds of thousands of these vulnerable children who’ve become the hidden victims of the COVID-19 pandemic?
