Rhythmic body movement in sleep is a common condition in children and may present with body rocking or head rocking or head banging. Tends to occur as falling asleep in Non REM sleep. Most grow out of it but some adults to still body rock when going to sleep. It is a harmless condition but can annoy the bed partner. There is no psychological condition predisposing to this. Sometimes it may cause some anxiety esp. if worried about waking up the partner. There are not many treatment options and we tend to avoid sedating sleep drugs like melatonin or clonazepam. If anxiety is prominent then may be worth trying Cannabidiol Oil CBD at night night time.
