Here’s a two week update for people to willfully mutilate their cactus for the sake of rigidity.
My girdling technique is most helpful for situations at the base or midpoint where you might need an extra inch or so added to the diameter. It will leave scars and callous in a location that won’t naturally expand without some help from too much rain or heavy nitrogen feeding.
