Research indicates that Black youth experience disproportionately high rates of involvement in bullying, whether as targets, perpetrators, or bystanders. Factors such as social and economic disparities, perceived differences, and racial discrimination contribute to higher risks of bullying victimization and perpetration among Black youth. Studies highlight that Black youth face additional challenges due to compounded factors like poverty and social exclusion, which can increase bullying involvement (Albdour & Krouse, 2020). Moreover, they are more likely to witness bullying, affecting their mental and academic well-being.
The short and long-term impact of childhood bullying for the targets of bullying, bystanders, and bullies may include a range of mental health and academic outcomes (Wolke, Copeland, Angold, & Costello, 2013).
