📖 The whole family was sitting around watching TV; the news was playing a melodramatic soap opera about children switched at birth.
Cracking sunflower seeds, my mom pointed at me and laughed to our relatives, "Actually, this one is the switched one. The hospital was a mess back then; we saw how pitiful she looked and just took her home."
The room erupted in laughter. I forced the corners of my mouth up in a wry smile.
It wasn't until later, when I dug out that paternity test report from the bottom of a chest, that things changed.
My mom panicked, snatching it from my hands and tearing it to shreds. "Who told you to go rummaging through things in the house!"
At that moment, I didn't cry. I just felt that this show should finally come to an end.
