On Dec. 24, 2018, LMPD Detective Deidre Mengedoht was making a traffic stop going eastbound on I-64 at the Belvedere, when Roger Burdette, who was driving a semi-trailer truck, struck her vehicle. The collision resulted in her death.
Each year on this date LMPD officers gather to remember her in a somber ceremony. In 2021, Roger Burdette was convicted in her death in November. He was sentenced to 27 years on prison on December 17.
