AthensWFS 2025: A Conversation with Italy and AC Milan Legend Laura Fusetti, with Elena Kouyoufa

From Day Two of the highly anticipated 6th Athens Women's Football Summit (held 2-3 October 2025 on the gorgeous Athens Riviera in Greece), we were honored to have AC Milan legend Laura Fusetti and moderator Elena Kouyoufa (Content Manager, SportsPro Media) provide us with a fascinating conversation about this Italian National Team star’s rich playing career and her transition from a lifetime as a footballer to a post-retirement career as AC Milan’s U19 Women’s Team Manager.

Laura’s football journey began with her playing with boys’ teams before moving to Tradate Abbiate at 13, later becoming captain at Como 2000. She went on to play in the UEFA Women’s Champions League with Brescia before joining the newly formed AC Milan Women in 2018.

An AC Milan icon, Laura was the first player to reach 100 appearances for the Rossonere, cementing herself as a leader and role model for her teammates. On the international stage, she represented Italy at the UEFA Women’s Euro 2017 and the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, showcasing her talent and resilience at the highest level.

Now, in her role as U-19 Women’s Team Manager at AC Milan, Laura continues to inspire the next generation of players with the same dedication and passion that defined her playing career.

Elena plays a key role in producing engaging and insightful content for the global sports industry, with expertise spanning media rights, sponsorship, technology, and innovation. She has interviewed leading voices in sport through NEW ERA—a year-round program championing gender equality and representation—and has contributed to major initiatives such as the Laureus Sport for Good Index and SportsPro’s 50 Most Marketable Athletes.

Passionate about driving equal opportunities in sport, Elena has also collaborated with the Ministry of Sport in Greece on nationwide campaigns that break down barriers to physical activity.
