Seven o'clock in the morning at the Haldensleben fulfillment center. At this time, the receiving area is bustling with activity. Numerous swap bodies and sea freight containers arrive daily, loaded with T-shirts, sweaters, blouses, shirts, pants, shoes – basically everything that can be ordered from Bonprix and OTTO. On peak days, up to 40,000 cartons of new merchandise are delivered, unloaded, and stored – a demanding job that requires significant physical strength and full concentration.
Since early August, the employees in the receiving area have had a new "colleague" who actively supports them: his name is "Stretch," he weighs 1,300 kilograms, and is an AI-powered robot. His task is to pick up cartons, place them on the conveyor belt, and thereby relieve the employees of some of their workload.
