The beginning of Amtrak ALC42s in the Pacific Northwest

In early 2023, Amtrak's brand-new ALC42 locomotives began to enter service on the Coast Starlight.
Previously entering service on the Empire Builder in 2022, this brand new locomotive class only existed in limited numbers, and didn't see service on the Coast Starlight until Siemens Mobility began to manufacture more.

This video mainly showcases Coast Starlight trains during the first spring and summer after the ALCs arrived, with the Empire Builder making an appearance.
Engines in both Phase 6 and 7 schemes are seen in various train consists, sometimes paired with their P42DC predecessors or specialty passenger coaches.

Featured are some scenes from Cruise Puyallup, a grassroots classic car meetup hosted in Puyallup's downtown core, right next to the extremely active BNSF Seattle Subdivision.
The Starlight can be seen passing through town, briefly interrupting the parade of classics down Meridian and 3rd Streets.

Selected music is Herbie Hancock's Spiraling Prism, a track from the jazz fusion album Mr Hands, released in 1980. Like most other pieces of music featured in past video productions, I purchased it on Vinyl from Hi Voltage records in Tacoma, and recorded it spinning on my turntable.
The song's laid back, retro-futuristic vibes fit perfectly with this video, the future and past casually shaking hands as futuristic locomotives meet classic automobiles.
