This video is to demonstrate the difference in volume and sound quality between tubes and no tubes on my most recent marimba (#112).
The resonators are tuned to match the frequency of the corresponding key. They are plugged at the bottom, the length being roughly .25 wavelength of the given frequency. Each plug has a buzzer mounted onto it to produce the buzz sought after in particular styles of music.
The keys are made from 37mm thick cherry and sit atop a frame of poplar. The design is rigid in the right places; very sturdy. All the critical points of the frame are joined with mortise and tenons.
The whole thing can be assembled/disassembled by one person in ~4 minutes and stores pretty well. I can fit it into my little Honda hatchback.
