Why do players look great in basketball practice but struggle in games?
In this video, I break down why most basketball practices don’t transfer to game performance — and how overly controlled, “clean” drills fail to prepare players for real decision-making.
Many coaches rely on:
• On-air shooting drills
• Scripted cone drills
• Perfect, controlled reps
But basketball games are fast, chaotic, and unpredictable. Players must read defenders, make quick decisions, and execute under pressure — skills that don’t develop in quiet, scripted practices.
This video explains:
• Why clean reps don’t equal game transfer
• How decision-making impacts player development
• Why mistakes in practice are necessary for growth
I’m not saying on-air drills are bad — they have a place. But if the majority of practice doesn’t include reads, pressure, and game-like situations, players shouldn’t be blamed when they struggle on game night.
