"I Am Woman" was a song that was a staple in the Supremes' live shows in 1964 through 1965. It is best remembered for being on the Supremes' 1965 live album "The Supremes At The Copa." It was around that time that the group recorded a studio version of the song for their planned, yet shelved "There's A Place For Us" album which did not see the light of day until 2004. The song was eventually replaced in the Supremes' live shows, but in 1968 the group recorded another studio version when Berry Gordy had the group record the score of the hit Broadway musical "Funny Girl." The results were more than satisfying. Even though the "Funny Girl" album bombed on the pop charts, it does contain some of their best work.
