How to Do a Patch Test for Lash Extensions.

Ever wondered why Patch Tests are important?

Patch tests help determine whether a client may or not be allergic to lash adhesives. Clients can discover any allergy if they have never had lashes before or even after they have lash extensions, they may develop an allergy over time. This is why Patch Tests are needed.

Lash glues have cyanoacrylate. This ingredient is active in all formulas but has a different percentage in each glue which determines how strong the lash adhesive fumes may be.
What to do:
Process of Elimination: Use Hypoallergenic Tape and the lash glue you are planning to use for the official lash session to determine allergy.
Pro tip: If there is no allergic reaction and then the client comes in for lash extensions and you use gel eye patches, then you can determine that the client is not allergic to the lashes or lash glue, but that they are allergic to the gel eye patches.

Waivers & Liability are also key for Patch Tests.
If a client says yes to a patch test, it is important to charge them - 30 minutes because this takes time as a preventative action.
And if the client doesn’t want to receive a patch test and you find out they have an allergic reaction. You must remind them that there is NO refund for your lash extension session, but to be kind enough to remove the lash extensions for free.

When to determine when a client needs a Patch Test:
Example one:
Client says they are allergic from previous experiences. You need a patch test - test with our Sensitive AF lash adhesive.

If they are allergic, then they are not recommended to get lash extensions.
Example two:
Do a Patch test for a client who has developed an allergic reaction after having lash extensions must wait. It may take up to 2 months for their eyes until eye is completely healed for you to know whether or not they should receive lash extensions again.
