Three innovative Japanese horror films from 1964 - Onibaba, Woman in the Dunes, and Kwaidan - continue what Ugetsu started a decade prior: J-Horror.
Supernatural and psychological, their slow burning of unnerving atmospheres stretched the meaning of the genre and has influenced many of the J-horrors of the 90s and 2000s, as well as the elevated horrors of the 2010s and today, in order to tell stories about our inescapable primal desires and the spirits that haunt them.
