Assam Requires NRC Receipt for Aadhaar, Crackdown on Illegal Foreigners

The Assam government, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, announced that all new applicants for Aadhaar cards must submit their NRC application receipt number. Sarma stated that Aadhaar cards in some districts outnumber the population. The government believes this measure will prevent the influx of illegal foreigners.
