Michaela and Ian… oh, you two! What an absolutely gorgeous couple! You are so infectiously in love and I couldn’t be happier that you chose me as your wedding videographer. From initial reservations to lockdown dating, to football rivalry, you’ve been through some adventures together and I have no doubt that there are many more to come.

Michaela and Ian became Mr and Mrs Clews on a sunny October day at the historic Grangefields in Derbyshire. This stunning venue has so much to offer and the happy couple really made the most of the beautiful barn setup with their lush, natural styling, embracing all the colours of the season. This breathtaking venue really is one of a kind, with a series of brick-built barns, renovated to include fantastic glass panels to let in plenty of natural light. Candlelit ceremonies take place in a barn with phenomenal arched oak beams and high windows that give a very traditional feel without the church setting. The venue is arranged around a central courtyard, housing one of Grangefield’s truly spectacular features: an enormous fire pit. With smaller fire pits dotted around the courtyards, and bulbs strung overhead, this is the perfect place to take a quiet moment during the evening and reflect on the day with your new spouse.

When I arrived, the wedding prep was getting underway with Makeup by Lauren Dearden and Sophie Lauren Hair. I was absolutely delighted to find that Michaela and Ian had written each other letters to open before the ceremony. I get so excited when I find out that a couple are doing this because it gives me the perfect opportunity to creatively capture their reactions and reflect that all important wedding-morning anticipation in their epic love film. The flowers arrived and I think it’s safe to say that Polkadot Florist smashed it out of the park. The bouquets and buttonholes were a perfect mixture of autumnal foliage, and stunning pale orange and cream blooms.

At 2pm, it was time for Michaela and Ian to tie the knot in front of their nearest and dearest. Michaela’s cold shoulder Casablanca floral gown with a blush underlay and beaded straps (provided by Tiffany Jordan bridal boutique) suited her perfectly as she made her way down the aisle towards an extremely emotional Ian. There’s going to be a theme here, ladies and gents. Ian chose a charcoal tweed suit with a patterned tie, while the bridesmaids shone in their gorgeous sage green dresses. I’m going to be a bit cheeky (not like me, I know) and take some of the credit for Ian and Michaela’s vows. As I do with all of my couples, I suggested personalised vows and I’m sure Mr and Mrs Clews will agree that it was the right choice. Ian’s tear ducts might argue with me but I think they’re probably still enjoying a well-deserved lie down. Seriously though, the gorgeous vows proved exactly how these two feel about each other and it was an honour to hear them share their love for each other in such an open and tender way. The old saying goes that a good laugh and a good cry both cleanse the mind. Well, following that ceremony, Ian and Michaela must be squeaky clean! After heartfelt readings by Charlotte and Dave, the moment was upon us. Ian and Michaela were officially married! Pass the confetti!

People say that there are a few key things that everyone remembers about a wedding: the dress, the music and the food. Let me tell you, the wedding feasts at Grangefield will be talked about for generations to come. With a state-of-the-art show kitchen, this venue is an absolute must-have for any foodie couples out there. I have to make a very specific mention of the speeches at this wonderful wedding. I see a lot of wedding speeches and not a lot surprises me now. But, when the 6ft 6” Maths teacher groom who had spent most of the day in tears, launched into a Fresh Prince/Craig David medley, I have to admit it took my brain a minute to catch up and I missed some of the finer details. Can you Fill Me In? Sorry. I’ll get my coat.

Feast devoured, speeches over and smoke bombs bombed (making for some great photos from Monkeymole), it was time to head out into the courtyard for a magnificent sparkler exit (a really key cinematic moment for me as a filmmaker) before catching some candid dancefloor footage and finally leaving Ian and Michaela to party long into the night with their loved ones to the spectacular tunes provided by Affinity.

Mr and Mrs Clews, you did it! I am over the moon for you both and I wish you all the happiness in the world. Your love story is beautiful and it was my pleasure to capture your special day to remember for all the years to come. Here’s to a lifetime of love, laughter and happy tears!
