EU ambassadors from all 27 member states will hold an emergency meeting on Sunday after Donald Trump threatened new tariffs on key European allies unless the US is allowed to buy Greenland.
Trump said he would hit Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands and Finland with a 10% tariff from 1 February, rising to 25% on 1 June if no deal is reached. Cyprus, holding the rotating EU presidency, called the meeting, set to begin at 5pm (4pm GMT).
