I've always done it, but is using free or cheap materials actually worth it?

I love building furniture and I want it to last and to be used, and when it comes to the choice of materials, I always go to my lumber shed and pick from old salvaged wood or wood that I've slabbed up myself. But using materials like this might not be such a good idea Afterall, yes they are free or at least pretty cheap, but as you'll see in the video, there are other hidden costs involved and it might not actually be as good of an idea as it seems. Hopefully this video shows you what to expect and also some solutions to the problems you might have when using salvaged wood.
I'll be finishing the tables this week so let me know if you'd like to see some pictures or a follow up video showing the final steps.
