The weight of the water can be a positive and negative aspect of a fly. So often, it is called out as the issue with casting big flies, but that is not entirely the case. Depending on the material composition of the fly, the Water absorbed by the pattern can often be the biggest aid in casting the fly out to distance. In this case, the Water tension of the bucktail reducing the overall profile of the fly and the weight added to it, makes these Monstrous bucktail flies a breeze to cast....as false casting increases, the flies dry out and casting performance decreases.
