In 1996, Lieza founded the gardens at Lukwe under the principles of permaculture forest gardening in a small hillside forest near Livingstonia, Malawi. After many years of trials, tribulations and water shortages the gardens are more alive with food, color and diversity than anyplace I have been.
For our last story from Malawi, A+B=FilmUnit visited Lukwe, which is now a thriving eco-camp, to tell their story about how life in Malawi maintains an interdependence with nature. Recognizing a distinct commitment to the surrounding village of Mantchewe, they have begun new programs that hope to inspire their neighbours to take advantage of natural farming practices and find new ways of subsiding from their natural wonders, beautiful waterfalls. Lukwe maintains the important link between subsistence farming, tourism and education, and inspired us in their mission to help everyone find a better way of life.
