The Tail Gas Super-Heater weighing 150 tonne and the Ammonia Evaporator weighing 40 tonne have been transported by our company DAN-CZECH SPECIALTRANSPORT s.r.o. Combining road transport & river transport was the only solution possible which was determined & limited by the overall parameters of those heavy loads in question. The journey started in Brno, Czech Republic & continued via Danube River Port Bratislava, Slovakia where both loads were trans-shipped onto a river barge & then headed for the Black Sea Port of Constantza in Romania from which will the journey continue via Caspian Sea to its final destination in Uzbekistan. The total overall dimensions & weight of each vehicle reached amazing L47.50 x W5.60 x H6.65 m – weight 272.30 tonne incl. the push truck & L29.50 x W3.00 x H5.70 m – weight 95.00 tonne respectively. To find a suitable route has been very complex & challenging task especially because of the height clearance limitations and bridge load bearing capacity limitations (similar load has never been moved between those two cities). Extensive route studies & bridge engineering etc. went into this to overcome all the challenges & hurtles on the route. Most of the bridges on the route required bridge assessments, bridge diagnostics, bridge static calculations etc. before hitting the road and some bridges were laser monitored for de-flexions when crossed during the transport as well. Few bridges that were NOT approved becuase of their insufficient load bearing capacity had to be crossed with the use of fly-over ramps while other 4 bridges had to be reinforced & supported by hydraulic tower & column jacking systems. A lot of power lines, some trolley & railway wires / cables had to be lifted, shut off and removed etc. during the transport as well. A supervision & assistances of power companies and railway authorities for the safe passage were necessary. In addition 1 roundabout had to be modified for passing through & rebuilt after again. A lot of obstacles along the way like traffic signs, traffic lights removed. This really tough & challenging job has proven our motto once again that ... “There is no substitute for experience“...
